About the Knocklyon Concert Band Society
The Knocklyon Concert Band Society, a voluntary community-based music education resource, was founded in 1998 to give an opportunity to young people in the greater Knocklyon area to play a musical instrument. An initial 35 boys and girls received a crash course on the recorder followed by the formation of the first fully instrumented Knocklyon Concert Band.
Here we are in 1998 ...
This small group gave their first public concert in Santa Maria College in June 2000 and some of those young players are still involved with the Society today. Since those early years the Society's numbers have swelled to capacity and we now have 150 young people participating in our Instrument, Theory and Band Programme.
In 2001 the Society took the major step of forming a team of committed parents who now oversee every aspect of the running and progres of the School.
The Society currently has two fully instrumented Concert Bands at Junior and Senior level of approximately 50-60 members each, along with a 20-piece Jazz Band called the ‘The Swing Kings’.
We are based in >> St. Colmcille’s Community School << on the Scholarstown Road and operate on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings during the school year.
